Aigoo… whether you are a kpop fan or not, BTS is everywhere. Trending on Tumblr and Twitter, attending the Billboard Music Awards, and even Vogue can’t seem to get enough of their glamour (read their two articles about BTS! 1 and 2).
You may have wondered who they are, or you may have thought pshhhht they’re too mainstream, but for many, BTS is the ultimate music group of talent, fresh aesthetics, genuineness, and humility. I will tell you the story of my BTS obsession at the end of the post, but for now-
here is an unofficial guide to BTS. enjoy.

songs to start you off
BTS is branded as a hip-hop boy band, but their songs actually cover a wide range of genres. Blood Sweat & Tears, FIRE and Save ME are a few of their most iconic pieces, and if you like rap, check out BTS Cypher PT.3, and if you like mellow songs, check out Spring Day, House of Cards, and Butterfly.
BTS is known for their creative concepts, as well as their choreography. As their songs and albums take on different themes: from teenage romance, to abuse and depression, to temptation and loss of innocence, to self-empowerment, their dance styles evolve as well.
Boy Meets Evil is the intro of their newest album Wings, and the choreography (seems to?) convey a young person struggling with the force of evil.
their music videos, especially recent ones, have always had stunning visuals and mind-blowing cinematography. However, not only that, their MVs often have complicated meanings and plot connections that fans spend hours and hours trying to decipher.
Blood Sweat and Tears is, according to many, inspired by the novel Demian by Hermann Hesse.
their personalities- meme kings
BTS has a great social media presence. They are on platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, as well as Snow (mainly used in Korea), and Weibo (the Chinese equivalent of Twitter). They often post their own content, like funny videos, selfies, parodies and music/art recommendations.
What I love about them is that they consider themselves not as celebrities, but as artists who lead by example, break new grounds and befriend other artists.
And they are not afraid to make fun of themselves. In fact, if you look through their interviews and other videos, you’ll know that they are such close friends that nobody can diss them better than how they diss each other.
At the Billboard Music Awards, they became friends with The Chainsmokers, Laura Marano, Halsey and many others.
Today is BTS’s 4th anniversary, and to celebrate, they threw a pajama themed”house party” for their fans, where they performed special songs and parodies and hung out with fans.
They are also extremely hardworking. They flew in from Japan for the home party in Korea, and this month they have been releasing new content non-stop thanks to the anniversary. They are also planning for a comeback later this year.
On top of all that, each member also has individual projects on the side, such as J-hope who COULD DROP HIS MIXTAPE ANY TIME!!!
I dare you to give me a reason not to love them.
ways to follow them
Facebook: BTS-Home page
V-Live: BTS channel (this is where they post BTS Gayo and Run BTS episodes, as well as livestream videos)
As much as i want to describe my obsession for BTS as love as first sight, it was actually quite a long story.
If you are new to kpop, you might think when you see BTS: Heck, who are these insanely adorable and subtly attractive people, and why are there so many of them? (and why are their hair colours always changing)
If you know kpop but didn’t know BTS… well, then you don’t really know kpop.
I am not exempt from these reactions described above. When my friends started freaking out about BTS, i thought: Oh well, they are very pretty and have perfect glowy skin and all, but they all kinda look the same… and all kpop groups are just kind of similar, full of dance-sing-rap triple threats.
And as much as i regret thinking that, I think it is totally natural for people new to kpop. There’s no point of forcing yourself into any fandom.
The best way to fall in love with something is to wait for that moment that clicks. For me, it was when Spring Day was released (read my post about it here). I loved the aesthetics and the concepts of their music video. And then i started voting for them for the BBMA Top Social Artist Award, and rooting for them really made me realize how deserving they are of all the love people give them.
So yeah, i only became an ARMY (a BTS fan) about a month ago, but i CAN say that what i lack in expertise i make up for it by watching Youtube videos and freaking out 24/7 with my friends.
i love BTS because they are so talented, hardworking, humble, real, motivated and kind. For me, they are, in so many ways, not only a band to listen to, but a presence that gives me hope and reminds me of how beautiful and genuine art can be, as well as the people behind them.
